About
Safe Nest Counselling

I Help People Break Toxic Cycles & Build Relationships With Others & Themselves.

Hi, I’m Arezou Mirzaei, a Certified Canadian Counsellor & psychology instructor.

I didn’t always know I would end up in this field. I come from a long line of engineers and during my 2nd year of Engineering I unexpectedly fell in love with psychology after taking a random elective in university. That one course opened my eyes to how deeply we are shaped by our relationships, experiences, and inner worlds. Today, I bring over 13 years of experience supporting individuals, couples, and families through the ups and downs of life. I also bring 12 years of experience working in adjudication, which has shaped my approach to be more directive and practical when needed. During that time, I worked exclusively with men navigating addiction, deepening my understanding of resilience and the complexities of change. My approach is warm, honest, and grounded in evidence-based methods like Emotionally Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and the Gottman Method. But more than anything, I show up with compassion, clarity, and a deep commitment to real change. Becoming a mother was one of the most transformative experiences of my life, but it was also one of the hardest. I struggled to adjust to the new role and even had difficulty committing to marriage, despite being with my partner for ten years. Heck, I even struggled with concept of being in a relationship after being in one for over 20 years now. So, I know a one or two thing about struggling with adjustments and transitions in life. Those experiences taught me that growth is not always neat or linear. They also made me a better therapist, more understanding, more patient, and more attuned to the layers people carry. I feel especially connected to supporting couples and individuals moving through major life transitions, such as parenthood, caregiving, or menopause. I also work closely with clients navigating the unique challenges that come with neurodiversity, particularly within relationships. What brings me the most joy in this work is witnessing small but meaningful shifts. I love seeing clarity replace confusion and watching clients reclaim a sense of connection with themselves and each other. You do not have to have all the answers. You just need to take the first step. I will be here to walk with you.
