About
Safe Nest Counselling

I Help People Break Toxic Cycles & Build Relationships With Others & Themselves.

Hi, I’m Arezou Mirzaei, a Registered Clinical Counsellor & psychology instructor.

My path to becoming a therapist was not a traditional one. Coming from a family of engineers, I initially pursued engineering studies myself. However, during my second year of university, a psychology elective unexpectedly changed the course of my life. What began as a random course quickly became a passion, opening my eyes to the profound ways our relationships, experiences, and inner worlds shape who we are. Today, I bring more than 15 years of experience supporting individuals, couples, and families through life's challenges, transitions, and opportunities for growth. My professional background also includes 13 years of experience in adjudication, which strengthened my ability to balance empathy with practical guidance. My therapeutic approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based practices. I draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and the Gottman Method to help clients gain insight, develop effective coping strategies, and create meaningful, lasting change. While every client and relationship is unique, my goal is always the same: to provide a safe, supportive space where growth feels possible. My personal experiences have also shaped the therapist I am today. Becoming a mother was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, but it was also one of the most challenging. Adjusting to parenthood, navigating marriage, and moving through the many transitions that accompany different life stages taught me firsthand that growth is rarely straightforward. These experiences strengthened my empathy and deepened my appreciation for the courage it takes to face change. I have a particular passion for supporting individuals and couples navigating major life transitions, including parenthood, caregiving, relationship challenges, and menopause. I also enjoy working with neurodiverse individuals and couples, helping them better understand themselves and strengthen their relationships. What I find most rewarding about this work is witnessing the small yet powerful shifts that occur when people begin to see themselves and their relationships differently. Whether it is finding clarity in confusion, rebuilding connection, or developing greater self-understanding, these moments of growth can be truly transformative. You do not need to have everything figured out before reaching out for support. Taking the first step is often the hardest part. When you are ready, I would be honoured to walk alongside you on your journey.
